De Helaasheid der dingen
(release 07/10/2009) is selected for the Cannes Film Festival (13th – 24th of May 2009). This feature film is a production from Menuet (Dirk Impens) after the bestseller of Dimitri Verhulst. Dimitri and Felix Van Groeningen (director) decided the film would even be better than the book. Who are we to argue this?
“De helaasheid der dingen” tells the story of Gunther Strobbe, 13, who lives with his father Celle and three uncles (Breejen, Koen en Lowie) at his grandmother’s. Every day, Gunther is confronted with the useless existence of the male family.Can Gunther at least influence the course of his own history? Can he play a trick on fate? Can he escape the alasness of things?
Cast: Koen De Graeve, Johan Heldenbergh, Wouter Hendrickx, Bert Haelvoet, Kenneth Vanbaeden, Valentijn Dhaenens, Gilda De Bal and many others.
Postproduction: Grid (on 20/4 we received the lock edl, by 13/5 we deliver a perfectly finished 35 mm print in Cannes).
